In the coming weeks, you will be asked to give your thoughts on this question: “What would most help all students in RUSD to be successful?” We need to hear from you as our district begins putting together its Local Control and Accountability Plan. Districts throughout California are crafting these plans, which signal a significant change from the state-controlled “one size fits all” educational plans of the past to a more locally-minded plan that specifically addresses the needs of our students here in Riverside. Make sure to have your voice heard! Come of one of the community meetings. You can find a full list of meeting dates and times at: www.successforstudents.org. You also can share your ideas at this website.

What is “No Excuses University” at Magnolia? In an effort to promote college readiness and awareness at the elementary level, the staff at Magnolia has applied and been accepted to be a “No Excuses University.” In this spirit, we are in the process of implementing the “No Excuses University” philosophy at our school. We are taking steps to promote high levels of lifelong academic achievement for all. In our classrooms we are selecting a college to research, learning college terminology that relates to each grade level, talking about the importance of college for selecting a career and providing students a purpose for learning their grade level academic standards.
