Arlington Parents, In light of recent news surrounding various Phone Apps that allow users to post anonymously, I wanted to communicate with you so we can work collectively to keep our students and educators safe from posts that are intended to hurt, defame, belittle and intimidate. We are working closely with authorities to monitor these Apps and will take appropriate action when necessary to protect our students and staff. I strongly encourage our students to avoid such Apps where anonymous posts are permitted and to always exercise good judgment when using social media outlets. Your "Digital Footprint" cannot be erased. Every site, page and community you visit leaves a digital trail. Bearing that in mind, you should always use these outlets responsibly by being respectful and appropriate in your interactions. Burn Book’s User Agreement specifically addresses bullying and nudity but it’s the bulk of the content. It also says you have to be 18 to download it but that isn’t stopping kids. Here is some information about the app: http://www.burnbookapp.com/ http://fox5sandiego.com/2015/03/12/burnbook-app-ceo-speaks-out-after-kids-use-app-to-bully/ http://tech.co/burnbook-anonymous-app-have-conscience-2015-01 I strongly encourage to speak with your son/daughter about their social media accounts. While the vast majority of our students are responsible in their use, the anonymity of this App has created a wealth of issues for students and schools by a select few who wish to cause harm. We will continue to keep you in the loop as we monitor this App (and others) closely. Betsy Schmechel, Principal
