California Ed Code requires that if a child is to be picked up early, the parent must do so. In the past we have allowed anyone on the emergency card to act on your behalf. This has changed. A parent must be the one picking up the student or there must be a note with the date and time provided to the school with the person picking up the child. Simply put, if someone other than the parent is picking up a student, they must have a written note signed by the parent with the time and date on it.
Per RUSD Board Policy #5112.5 "CLOSED CAMPUS" 1.1 "The Governing Board, as authorized by Education Code Section 44808.5, has established a "closed campus" at the high schools of the district to enhance educational opportunities and in the interest of student safety and supervision. Once students arrive on the school grounds they must remain on campus until the end of their last regularly scheduled class unless they have received permission from school authorities to leave for a specific purpose. Students who leave campus without proper authorization of school authorities shall be subject to disciplinary action."
