RUSD provides eligible employees with a comprehensive employee benefit package that is partially paid for by the District.  The EMPLOYER-sponsored plans for employee and family coverage are:

Who is Eligible and When Does it Begin? 

Coverage for newly-eligible employees and their eligible dependents begins the first day of the month following an employee’s start date and/or a scheduled work week of at least 20 hours (Classified) 16 hours (Certificated) per week.  The district will continue to offer some or all of the benefits to certain employees who retire from active service.  For Retirees under the age of 65, benefits may be offered under the terms of a negotiated collective bargaining agreement, or other agreement approved by the Board of Education.

Eligible dependents include dependents as a result of a marriage, birth, adoption, or placement for adoption. 

 

When to Enroll 

Newly hired RUSD employees have 30 days from their employment start date to enroll in benefits.  Current employees who are not enrolled and wish to join the plan or make changes to existing plans, add or drop dependents can do so during the annual open enrollment period in the Fall.  You cannot make changes to your existing health plans outside of the open enrollment period, unless you have a qualified change in status.

How to Enroll

Review your benefit plan options detailed in the BENEFIT GUIDE and determine which plan best suit your needs.  Once you have made your elections, contact your assigned Employee Benefits Assistant or the Benefits Department to schedule an appointment to enroll.  Unless you have a qualified change in status, you cannot make changes to the benefits you elect until the next open enrollment period (refer to page 25 in the BENEFIT GUIDE for more information).

In order to enroll eligible dependent family members, employees MUST provide the following information:

  • State Certified Copies of the marriage or birth certificate (as applicable to the type of dependent being enrolled)
  • Social Security Number for all enrolled dependents
 
How to make changes

Unless you have a qualified change in status, you cannot make changes to the benefits you elect until the next open enrollment period.  Qualified changes in status must be reported within 30 days of the event.  Please contact the Benefits Department immediately, if you have a qualifying change in status refer to page 25.
