Michael H. Fine assumed the role of Interim Superintendent of the Riverside Unified School District on November 4, 2013. He brings with him a wealth of experience, which includes serving for 11 years as RUSD’s Deputy Superintendent for Business Services and Governmental Relations. He has more than 21 years of experience in public education.
Mr. Fine joined RUSD in 2002. In his former role, he over saw the areas of Fiscal Services and Budget, Risk Management, Purchasing,Warehousing, Nutrition Services, Transportation, Maintenance and Operations, Facilities Projects, Network and Information Systems, Publications and Strategic Communications, and Program Development and Extended Learning.
Prior to coming to RUSD, Mr. Fine worked as the Assistant Superintendent for Business Services in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. He has previous experience at Hughes Aircraft Company and General Dynamics Corporation as a Financial Administrator in accounting and indirect budgets.
Mr. Fine holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Cal Poly Pomona in Business Administration and a Master of Public Administration degree from California Baptist University. He also holds numerous professional certificates. Fine is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the California Association of School Business Officials, Association of California School Administrators, and the American Society for Public Administration.
As a leader in education, Mr. Fine has received numerous honors. He was named the 2013 Riverside County Educator of the Year – Classified Administrator and was the 2011-12 American Society for Public Administration’s Outstanding Administrator in Education. Mr. Fine also has presented at numerous state and local conferences and seminars. He is known as one of California’s preeminent school finance experts and his input is often sought out by state policymakers.
Mr. Fine’s wife Kevin is an elementary school teacher in RUSD. The couple’s two children are both RUSD graduates.
