After 3 months of bravely serving in war torn Afghanistan, Special Agent Weidhase returns home and surprises his son, cadet Patrick Weidhase, with a unexpected visit to his JROTC classroom.

Auditions for Theater 3/4 - repertory theater class, will be held Thursday in the Theater at 3:00 pm. Any student who has not completed the Theater 1/2 course will be able to audition into this class, including incoming Freshmen with theater experience . This fun group of actors will be tapped to perform at the Riverside Ghost Walk and the Riverside Dickens Festival competition, as well as a small traveling show to go to Miller and Earhart middle schools. If you or anyone you know are interested please show up Thursday May 17th after school or see Mrs. Pipitone or Ms. Scarborough for more information. No preparation required.
Tennis Coach Gil Herrera earns title of Coach of the Year as his boys team wins the Big Eight League Championship for the second year in a row. This is a super accompolishment by both Coach Herrera and the boys tennis team as the Big Eight League is considered the toughest of the Inland leagues.
Mark DeRuyter, Ashley Boydd and Kevin Garcia receive awards for their art work at the Riverside County Art Exhibit. Mark received a 2nd place award in ceramics, Kevin received a 3rd award in sculpture, and Ashley received an honorable mention award in ceramics.
Rachel Smith, junior and JROTC Cadet, received the Good Citizenship Award, a program hosted by the Riverside County Bar Association that promotes citizenship and leadership among the youth of Riverside Country. Congratulations Rachel!
King Band to preform in Harry's Law Eposode on Sunday evening, April 29th on NCB channel 4.
Mrs. Rebecca Brown replaces Dr. Jamie Angulo, who left King High School in February to accept the position of principal at Ramona High Schoo.

Nehaly Shah earned a perfect score on her ACT college admissions test and a near perfect score on the SAT and becomes a candidate in the US Presidentail Scholars Program. Nehaly is one in about 3,000 candidates in the nation to be selected from about 3.2 million students from the Class of 2012. Only two students were selected from Riverside.
Garrett Swanson was selected by the Riverside County National Football Foundation Hall of Fame as a Scholar Athlete. His name will be enshrined in South Bend, Indiana with the likes of Drew Brees and Payton Manning. He also has been offered an opportunity to walk on as a Punter/Kicker who will be on the traveling roster at Fresno State University. If all goes well as it will he will be awarded a scholarship after the Fall Season.
King High School recognizes NJROTC cadets Kyle Boutwell, Chris Luna, Aaron Stewart, and Amanda Gomez, for giving back to those who served our great Nation. These unselfish cadets recently spent two and a half hours at the Riverside Elks Lodge #643 serving dinners and then dining with a group of veterans who are trying to transition to a productive life after serving in the military. Many were homeless before they were taken in by US Vets located on Joint Power Authorities (JPA) property adjacent to the March Air Reserve Base in Moreno Valley. This Riverside location currently serves 119 veterans daily (housing, food, counseling, etc).
NJROTC Cadet Kimberli Graham, 12 grade, won First Place Honors in the Joseph C. Gilliam Academic Achievement Essay contest. Graham's essay on the topic "How has the Navy JROTC core mission of citizenship development positively influenced myself, my NJROTC unit, and my community," earned her a $750.00 scholarship.
The CIF State Office included Riverside King girls basketball coach Ann Dena Sjoerdsma among its 2011-12 Model Coach Award winners. Sjoerdsma, who has been at King since the school opened in 1999, was one of 15 winners were nominated through their local CIF Section office. They'll receive an award and be honored at their sport's State Championship or at an event of the recipient's choosing.
King student, Rachael Smith recently competed in and won the local Veteran of Foreign Wars "Voice of Democracy" contest. Rachael's essay and audio speech was titled, "Is There Pride in Serving in Our Military?" The speech was graded on originality, content, and speech delivery. Rachael was encouraged to compete by her NJROTC instructor, Chief Julius Mesias and her high school counselor, Mrs. Valerie Spencer. Congratulations Lieutenant Smith!
King High School’s Senior Naval Science Instructor and JROTC Color Guard were invited to participate in the 2nd Annual Woodcrest Elementary School Veterans Appreciation assemblies on Thursday, November 9th. Guest speaker and Desert Storm Veteran, Lt Commander Thompson spoke to approximately 300 students, teachers, and veterans on “Why We Celebrate Veterans Day.” King’s Color Guard “presented” the American flag as the gathered audience proudly placed their hand over their heart and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
