We believe that education and children are the future. Monroe will prepare our students to become independent learners with the desires, the skills, and the abilities necessary for lifelong learning. This will require creating a learning environment which is centered around students, directed by teachers, and supported by parents.

    Hello Monroe Families!

Starting on Monday, January 23, we will partner with Make A Wish Foundation to raise some much needed funds for very sick kids. For two weeks, we will have a PENNY WAR! Bring in as many pennies as you can and the scholars can drop it off in the bucket in the cafeteria during lunch.

    Here are the simple rules:

    1. Bring as many pennies as you can and drop them off in the cafeteria during lunch in the right bucket. It is competition between Primary and Upper Grades.

    2. The team with the most pennies wins!

    3. Drop other coins and money in the OTHER team's bucket and then we SUBTRACT that many pennies. For example, if someone drops a dime in the other team's bucket, then that team loses 10 pennies.

4.The winning team will get a longer recess and maybe an extra prize!

    5. This fundraiser is only for 2 weeks and ends February

All RUSD schools have an assigned Student Assistance Program (SAP) Counselor. The SAP Counselors are licensed clinicians who provide a variety of services in our schools including individual and group counseling, socials skills groups, and classroom presentations. Students are referred to the counselors by staff members, parents, and other concerned people. Students may also refer themselves to the counselors. Upon receipt of the referral, the SAP Counselor will connect the parent/guardian to schedule a Family Interview. In some cases, minors over 12 may consent to working with their school’s SAP Counselor. • What's New?

    • Word from our new Principal:

      Dr. Churchwell

      Dear Parents,

It  is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of Monroe Elementary School. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition that has produced so many outstanding scholars. I look forward to developing positive relationships and working with each and every one of you while continuing to  provide a world-class educational experience for all of our scholars.

I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than fifteen years with a specific concentration in literacy development, the teaching of writing and vocabulary development and meeting the needs of all students especially those with disabilities.

Professionally, I started my career teaching in grades 9-12 at Westchester High School in Los Angeles, CA.  I then had the opportunity to teach grades K-5 in the Special Day Class setting at Loyola Village Elementary School. In Riverside, I taught grades K-6 as a Resource Specialist and led the Read 180 Program at Castle View Elementary School. Most recently, I served as the Assistant Principal of Emerson Elementary School.

Educationally, I earned my B.A in Psychology and English at UCLA, my Teaching Credential and Masters in Special Education at CSUDH, my Administrative Credential at Brandman University, and my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

Personally, my wonderful husband Jason and I, moved to Riverside in 2010. We have been married for nine years and have an amazing, fun-loving, inquisitive, and energetic four year old daughter named Sarah. She lights up our lives. Just wait until you meet her!  I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, going to the movies, singing in my church choir, and learning more about my strengths and the strengths of everyone around me.

My top 5 strengths based on the Strengths-Finders Assessment are: Positivity, Achiever, Learner, Communication, and Individualization. I enjoy finding the positive in every situation, working hard to get things done, learning with my staff, communicating to make sure everyone is heard, and finding the individual strengths in everyone I work with so we can all do what we do best at work.

This year is going to be incredible as we continue to provide academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, relevant, and help us delve deeper into content knowledge. As your principal, it is important to me that everyone who walks through our doors—teachers, staff, students and parents—are excited to be here! This attitude will enable us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun and nurturing environment.

My door will always be open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in, call, or email me to discuss any suggestions or ideas to help make this the best year yet!

I feel truly blessed to be the instructional leader of such an awesome school community. I’m looking forward to meeting you and finding out what you value most here at Monroe.

      Dr. Tasceaie Churchwell, Principal

      Clean Campus

Champions of the Clean Campus Competition. Thank you Monroe. Special thanks to Ms. Eaton for beautifying our campus!

"Our formula for success is simple, since 1992 KRCB's beautification projects have provided opportunities for volunteers to receive hands-on stewardship with: litter prevention, graffiti eradication, planting roses along Victoria Ave., tree planting in local parks and community greening projects. Each month the KRCB staff partners with the City of Riverside's Public Works Department and organizes volunteers for multiple beautification projects in one of the seven council wards within the City of Riverside"
