RUSD’s School Attendance Review Board Selected as a Model SARB in California

RUSD is proud to announce that its School Attendance Review Board (SARB) was selected as a Model SARB in California. A SARB is a type of safety net for students with persistent attendance or behavior problems, with the goal to improve, keep them in school and graduate. The California Department of Education noted the District’s “comprehensive prevention, early identification, and intervention strategies as well as its excellent inventory of community resources” as reasons for the recognition. Congratulations to the hard working staff in RUSD Pupil Services for creating one of the best programs in the entire state!

About the Model SARB Recognition Program:

The Model School Attendance Review Board (SARB) Recognition Program identifies and recognizes outstanding and innovative results-based school attendance and behavior improvement programs. Outstanding SARBs at the district or county level serve as models and mentors for other SARBs in the state which are reducing chronic absenteeism rates.

The California Department of Education (CDE) encourages SARBs that meet the eligibility criteria, including the required collection of chronic absentee data, to submit an application to the Model SARB Recognition Program.

Model SARB Recognition Program Applications are reviewed and scored by State SARB members who are not associated with applicants. Scores are based on the Model SARB Recognition Program Readers’ Rubric. (See the CDE California Laws and Codes Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/lr/cl/.) Reviewers determine whether the applicant’s program meets the criteria for Model SARBs as outlined in the Content Areas.
